We are pleased to report that Timon Sengewald has successfully defended his doctoral dissertation at the Chair of Information Systems I, Innovation & Value Creation (FAU Wi1).
In his dissertation, “Orchestrating Open Innovation in Smart Cities: A Municipal’s Perspective,” he analyses how municipalities assume a coordinating role in open innovation settings characterised by multiple, interdependent stakeholders. The work explores how public actors structure, guide, and stabilise collaboration processes within smart city ecosystems.
The study advances the literature by framing municipalities as central actors in the orchestration of innovation activities, thereby contributing to research on ecosystem governance, open innovation, and digital transformation in the public sector. In addition, it provides empirically grounded insights into the design of coordination and governance mechanisms in complex urban environments.
This achievement marks an important step in Timon Sengewald’s academic development.
We warmly congratulate him and wish him continued success in his future endeavours.
