Dr. Uta Renken

Uta Renken joined the chair as a research associate in 2009. She graduated from the University of Passau with a Master in intercultural communication and business administration (Dipl.-Kulturw.). During her studies, she spent time in Japan, Spain, and New Zealand gaining practical experience at the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Engel & Völkers and the German Embassy in New Zealand. After her studies she was a Heinz Nixdorf Programme fellow and spent eight months in Japan, working for the Delegation of the European Commission to Japan (Science & Technology Section). Before joining the team in Nuremberg she had been a founding member of a start-up company developing an online-based application software. In her dissertation (finished 2012) she examined the (non-)adoption of social research network sites and developed a social media management cycle. Uta’s current research focuses on communication and collaboration technologies, social media and social networks stressing the social and cultural aspects of technology usage. She has been working on projects on social media and open innovation in different fields, such as research networks, public institutions, the automotive sector and the manufacturing industry. As a project leader, she examines success factors for the implementation and management of social media in a large automotive company.  She is a reviewer for academic journals, such as the International Journal of Technology Marketing, the European Management Journal, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Business and Information Systems Engineering (BISE) as well as for academic conferences, such as the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), European Academy of Management Annual Conference (EURAM), the Hawaii International Conference on System Science (HICSS) and Internationale Tagung Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI). In summer 2013, she worked as a Visiting Scholar at the National University of Ireland in Maynooth.
